ECHO provides over Tk 0.44m to underprivileged students

Education, Charitable and Humanitarian Organisation (ECHO) provided over Tk 0.44 million to some 55 underprivileged but meritorious students in three categories in Dhaka region.
The organisation handed over the aforesaid amount to the students at a stipend distribution ceremony in the city Monday.
Among the stipend recipients, 29 are from the university level, 16 from the college level and ten from the secondary level. The students will be receiving this support until their courses of studies end.
ECHO has been giving such financial assistance to the Bangladeshi students to enable them to carry out their studies since 2001.
Under the programme, Muslim Aid is providing some 516 students with financial assistance and 250 with free technical education.
From 2000 Muslim Aid provided support in formal & non-formal education, free technical education and orphan care.
Since the inception of its functioning, some 5,000 poor and orphan students have acquired informal and free technical education with the help of Muslim Aid and they are now contributing to the society. The organisation has also opened a residential academy for the orphans in Rangpur.
Acting country director Monwar Hossain presided over the function while secretary and director of ECHO-USA Zia Karim was the chief guest in the stipend distribution function.
Among others, Head of Operations of Muslim Aid Mahbub Shaheed, representative overseas Abdulmunin Yahia Ibn Alkas, Enayet Hossain Jakaria, Iqbal Ahmed and Abedatul Fatema and students, parents, representatives from the civil society were present on the occasion.
