ECNEC approves digital land survey, record project

The government will keep nearly 45.84 million land records in 55 districts in an automated format. The highest economic policy-making body -- ECNEC -- Tuesday endorsed a Tk 927.8 million cost development project to this effect, officials said.
Presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the digital land survey, record and preservation project at its meeting in Dhaka.
The ECNEC also approved two other projects at a combined cost of Tk 1.78 billion.
After the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said the government will preserve 45.84 million land records (CS, SA & RS) using information technology, so that the automated documents can be handed over to the land owners easily.
The project will be implemented in 55 districts for surveying, recording and preserving the land documents till June 2016, he added.
Besides, the ECNEC meeting also approved the upgradation of Signboard-Morelganj-Rayenda-Sharankhola-Bogi road to a regional highway project at a cost of Tk 1.23 billion.
The Roads and Highways Department will construct the 52.15 kilometres road by June 2016.
The ECNEC also approved the procurement of 50-feet long air breathing and gas forward fire-fighting training gallery and other necessary rescue equipment at a cost of Tk 543.5 million.
The equipments will boost the Fire Service and Civil Defence Department by June 2016.
The planning minister said the total Tk 2.71 billion, required for all these projects, will be provided by the government from its own resources.
Among others, Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofayel Ahmed, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury were present at the ECNEC meeting.
