ECNEC okays 5 projects involving Tk 34.45b

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved five development projects including the Urban Governance and Infrastructure Improvement Project (UGIIP). The UGIIP aims to establish gender friendly good governance in 31 pourasabhas (municipalities) across the country. The approval came from an ECNEC meeting held in the NEC conference room in city’s Sher-e- Bangla Nagar with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal after the meeting told reporters that the ECNEC gave nod to five development projects with a total outlay of Tk 34.45 billion. ‘Of the total project cost, the government will provide Tk 9.45 billion from the national exchequer while Tk 24.99 billion will come as project assistance,’ he added. Kamal said the third phase of the Urban Governance and Infrastructure Improvement Project (UGIIP) will require a cost of Tk 26.48 billion. Local Government Division (LGD) is tasked to complete the project by June, 2020, according to AFP.
