ECNEC okays Tk 26.63b development projects

The ECNEC Tuesday approved nine development projects at a total cost of Tk 26.63 billion, for improving the country's infrastructure and socio-economic sector. The Ministry of Planning officials said the projects would be bankrolled by the government resources, without any support from foreign lenders and donors. Presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), among others, has approved a Tk 7.46 billion project to procure dredgers. The government would disburse Tk 7.46 billion to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) to procure 10 dredgers in a bid to ensure navigability on the country's ailing river-routes. The government will upgrade the Gabtoli-Swarighat Road to four-lane, investing Tk 710 million, to divert vehicles from the capital's busy road to the proposed west-south link-road. Besides, the ECNEC endorsed the Kalni-Kushiara river management project at a cost of Tk 6.10 billion, the Mujibnagar integrated agriculture development project at Tk 2.11 billion, and revised the college-level girls' stipend project at Tk 5.80 billion. The highest economic policy-making body of the government also approved the greater Faridpur irrigation development project at a cost of Tk 900 million, upgradation of the Madaripur-Kajirtek-Shariatpur Road to four-lane at Tk 2.0 billion, building of Badherhat-Khoirchar Road at Nagarbari Ghat area at Tk 930 million, and Kusthia city bypass road construction project at Tk 530 million.
