Ecnec okays Tk 4.35 billion development projects

The executive committee of the national economic council (ECNEC) on Tuesday gave its stamp of approval to four development projects at a combined cost of Tk 4.35 billion.
Presided over by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the ECNEC, in its 22nd meeting of the current financial year (FY) 2013-14, endorsed the development projects at the Planning Commission office in the city.
Emerging from the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said the ECNEC gave its nod to four projects at a total cost of Tk4.35 billion, where Tk 3.17 billion funds will come from the government's own exchequer and the rest Tk 996 million from the external sources.
The ECNEC approved the Manikkhali bridge on the Asashuni-Paikgacha road project at a cost of Tk 1.09 billion, and the Transmission efficiency improvement through reactive power compensation and re-enforcement of Goalpara sub-station project at a cost of Tk 1.62 billion.
It also endorsed the development and expansion of the Chittagong Engineering and Technology University at a cost of Tk 692.9 million and the ensuring employment for the poor at the northern region at a cost of Tk 948.8 million.
The employment generation scheme at the northern region will be implemented at Rangpur, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat districts between April 2014 and March 2019.
Ministers, secretaries and officials concerned were present at the ECNEC meeting.
