Eco-friendly battery-driven cars getting popular in city

Cheng Feng Electric Tricycle, a battery-driven car free from all sorts of pollution like sound and smoke, plying on the streets of the capital city and a number of districts getting popular day by day, reports BSS.
Experts said, such cars could replace fossil fuel run vehicles and the country could save huge amounts in foreign currency by importing the cost-effective and eco- friendly vehicles.
A total of four passengers can get on the car comfortably and fares now being settled in consultation with passengers as the cars are yet to get permission from authorities concerned to run the vehicles.
"I bought a car this month at a cost of Tk 0.13 million (1.30 lakh) and earned Tk 700 plying the car from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm as the passengers like to ride on it, Mohammad Nasir, the owner-cum- driver of the newly introduced passenger vehicle, told the news agency.
Managing director of Panjeri Trade International Limited and Safat Motors Limited Mahfuzur Rahman said that he had so far imported 200 such cars and the buyer demand was on the rise.
A total of four batteries are needed to ply the car on roads and the batteries are available at Rahim Afrooz, Navana and Rangs Power. The batteries required eight hours of charging for 120 kilometers of travel.
Asked whether he got permission from the authorities to ply the cars on the city streets, Rahman said, he had applied to the Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) authorities seeking permission to ply on roads with necessary documents.
