Economic Liberty Index

It seems Bangladesh is earning a lot of 'good certificates' these days instead of the usual depressing images that used to, rightly or wrongly, capture the media's attention. If certificates matter, then we ought to be happy, specially when coming from representatives of rich and advanced regions of the world.
The other day, the UNDP country chief, Renata Lok Dessallen, prior to her farewell to Bangladesh at the end of her tenure here, gave very high marks to the state and its people. 'The future of Bangladesh is very hopeful,' she said in an interview published on Sunday in at least two national dailies. Then again, we find the US-based Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal jointly putting Bangladesh at the 137th position on the Index of Economic Freedom world rankings, scoring 3.6 points higher than last year. In the Asia-Pacific region we were ranked 29th out of 41 countries.
Keep it up, dear Bangladesh, but keep your wits around you too -- to defeat all kinds of saboteurs and unpatriotic agent provocateurs in the ruthless 'economic war' that goes on around us overtly and covertly.
