Economy turned bankrupt, says Moyeen Khan

Sunday, 8 January 2012

A senior leader of opposition BNP Saturday accused the government of making the country's economy bankrupt over the past three years, reports bdnews24.com.
Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, a member of BNP's National Standing Committee said the economy became bankrupt as prices of dollar were rising everyday.
"The government had taken Tk 400 billion in loan from banks in the past three years," he told reporters at a human chain programme in front of the National Press Club.
"Now, we are waiting to see where the amount of government loan reaches in next two years," Khan said.
The programme, organised by 'Muktijuddher Projonmo' was to commemorate the death of one Felani killed by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on January 6, 2011.
Khan alleged that the government was paying "more attention towards India's interests".
"Low-quality Indian products are entering Bangladesh's market without any barrier whereas India is disallowing Bangladeshi products into their markets placing non-tariff barriers," Khan said.
"India is plotting to make us dependent on them by injecting their rejected products into our market," Khan alleged.
He strongly criticised the government's policies, which failed to control price hike and saw the shutdown of many workplaces due to lack of investment.
"There is no alternative to demonstration to remove this government," he said, asking the people to join them in their anti-government movement.
He also slammed the government for not protesting against the killing of Felani and said once BNP comes to power, India would have to answer questions regarding the killing.
