Edible oils cheaper in country than Kolkata

The prices of different essential commodities including edible oils are cheaper in the country compared to those in Kolkata, reports BSS.
On the other hand, prices of some essentials including rice, pulses and sugar are comparatively higher than those in Kolkata markets.
But the prices of those items being sold in BDR-run open markets and BDR distribution centres are almost the same. Even the prices of some items are comparatively less.
According to the BDR market rates, coarse rice is being sold in several city markets including Karwan Bazar, Mohammadpur, Kalyanpur, New Market and Kachu Khet at Tk 20 to Tk 22 per kg. The price of coarse rice in Kolkata is Tk 19.30 in Bangladesh currency.
The coarse rice is being sold at BDR-run open market at Tk 19 per kg and at BDR distribution centres at Tk 18 per kg. The price of rice is less by Tk 0.30 and Tk 1.30 respectively compared to prices in Kolkata.
A one-kg packet of atta is being sold in the city markets including Karwan Bazar at Tk 25 to Tk 26, which is being sold in Kolkata markets at Tk 19.30 in Bangladesh currency. While the price of one-kg atta at BDR-run open market is Tk 25 and Tk 24 at BDR distribution centres.
Lentil is being sold between Tk 55 and Tk 60 at different city markets including Karwan Bazar, Mohammadpur, Kamlapur, New Market and Kalyanpur. The price of which is Tk 56.14 in Kolkata markets in Bangladesh currency.
