Editors' Council voices concern over threat against Shyamal Dutta

Sampadak Parishad (Editors' Council) has expressed grave concern over security threat against Bhorer Kagoj editor Shyamal Dutta and issuance of warrant for his arrest in a defamation case.
The Parishad in a statement also expressed concern over frequent issuances of arrest warrants and summons against editors and reporters, especially to those working in the districts, mostly on flimsy grounds.
The statement was issued following a meeting of editors of national dailies held at The Daily Star Centre in the city on Sunday, said a press release.
Recently, different agencies have been calling editors and reporters and seeking explanation for news items published in newspapers, the Parishad also observed.
The Parishad considered such practices to be against freedom of media and demanded that those should be stopped immediately.
The signatories to the statement include Parishad members Golam Sarwar, Mahfuz Anam, Tasmima Hossain, Reazuddin Ahmed, Khandaker Muniruzzaman, Shyamal Dutta, Nayeem Nizam, Zafar Sobhan, Dewan Hanif Mahmud, AHM Moazzem Hossain, Matiur Rahman, Alamgir Mohiuddin and Imdadul Haq Milan.
