Edn ministry for 15pc more allocation from next FY
FE Report | Sunday, 12 April 2015
The ministry of education (MoE) sought some 15 per cent more allocation than estimated under the medium-term budgetary framework (MTBF) from the next fiscal year (FY) to meet expenditures of its different programmes, officials said.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has recently sent a letter to Finance Minister AMA Muhith seeking the additional allocation.
Meanwhile, a high official of the ministry of finance (MoF) said no more additional allocation would be made to the MoE under the MTBF for the next FY.
Under the MTBF, about Tk 168.45 billion (16, 845 crore) has been allocated for the FY 2015-16. Of the allocation, Tk 129.06 billion has been kept for meeting non-development expenditures and Tk 39.38 billion for development purposes.
An official of the MoE said an additional allocation of 15 per cent has been sought for meeting expenses of the ministry for continuation of its different programmes in the coming FY.
The number of students has gradually been increasing over the four years in the country's educational institutions. But it is not possible to increase opportunities for the teachers and staffs of the institutions up to the expected level. So, it is difficult to keep a sound environment of education, the minister mentioned in the letter.
He said: "It is not possible to develop the infrastructures of educational intuitions at the expected level due to insufficient fund. For this, the government's commitment made in this connection may not be fulfilled."
