Education minister calls for united resistance against militancy

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid Saturday called upon all progressive, patriotic and religious people to consciously resist militancy, reports BSS.
"Militancy hinders peace and stability in society," he said while speaking at a seminar on prevention of militancy at Kabi Nazrul Government College ground in the city.
The minister called for united resistance against the militants who are carrying out terrorism in the name of religion.
Presided over by Principal of the college Prof Raushan Jahan, the seminar was also addressed by Director General of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Prof M Noman Ur Rashid, Dhaka Education Board Chairman Fahima Khatun, Kabi Nazrul College Vice-Principal Prof M Rafiqul Islam, former Principal Prof Ali Akbar Khan, Prof M Afsar Ali, Dr Mahbub Sarfaraj, college Chhatra League President Mohiuddin Sarkar and General Secretary AKM Faruq.
Kabi Nazrul College Assistant Professor Shaila Nasrin read out a keynote paper at the seminar.
The keynote speaker said that it was the moral responsibility of all citizens to resist those who are giving misinterpretation of religion and hindering the progress of individuals, families, society, country and state.
The education minister said that militant activities were being carried out in the name of religion all over the world. The militants use weaknesses of the people like religion, poverty and nationalism, he added.
The militants have defamed Islam, the religion of peace, before the world people, he said and added that the country's youth force must not be allowed to fall in the grip of the militants.
