Educationist, student leader Shayesta Khan dies

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 20: Eminent educationist and renowned student leader of the sixties Professor Shayesta Khan died on Monday.
He breathed his last at the age of 80 in a Chattogram clinic at around 5:30 AM. He was suffering from cancer.
He left a son, a daughter and many students and relatives to mourn his passing.
Professor Shayesta Khan was born on June 10, 1945, in Alkaran, Chittagong City. He was a student of Chittagong Collegiate School and Government Commerce College and completed his post-graduate studies from Dhaka University.
Professor Shayesta Khan was one of the leading student leaders in Chittagong during the student movement against the military dictatorship in the 1960s. He played a very active role in the politics at that time, including in the mass uprising in 1969.
During his professional career, Professor Shayesta Khan was the principal of Chittagong Government Commerce College, Dhaka's Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, and Chittagong Government Women's College.
He is also the founder of Chittagong Metropolitan Commerce College and Udayan School in Chattogram. In 2001, he was awarded as the Best Sports Organiser of the Year by the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association.
His namaj-e-janaja was held at Jamiatul Falah mosque after Asar prayer on Monday. Later, he was buried at the Miskin Shah graveyard in Chattogram.
