Effective plan emphasised to eradicate urban poverty

RAJSHAHI, Apr 28 (BSS): Speakers at a daylong workshop said formulation of effective plan of action has become an urgent need for freeing the poor and extreme poor communities from poverty and hunger.
They said the existing problems of the underprivileged community should be incorporated in the proposed action plan aiming to cut their poverty.
Rajshahi City Corporation and Urban Partnership for Poverty Reduction Project (UPPRP) organized the workshop styled "Progress of Community Resource Center" at Cooke Jar Restaurant in the city Sunday.
More than 100 people comprising government and non-government officials', public representatives, community leaders and other stakeholders attended the programme.
Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has been implementing the UPPRP in the metropolis in association with UNDP and UK Aid in order to improve the livelihood condition of around two and half lakh poor and extreme poor people, especially women and girls.
Mayor Mosaddeque Hossain Bulbul addressed the programme as the chief guest while Panel Mayors Anwarul Amin Azab and Nurun Nahar Begum, Ward Councilors Mustaque Hossain and Belal Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer Ajahar Ali and Chief Engineer Ashraful Haque spoke as special guests.
Mayor Bulbul reiterated that the city needs more anti-poverty schemes to eradicate poverty alongside eliminating other poverty linked social problems like child marriage and drug addiction.
He urged the public representatives and others concerned to come up with ways on formulating a joint action plan to free the poor and extreme poor communities from the vicious cycle of poverty and hunger.
