Efforts on to procure equipment to forecast weather more accurately

Efforts are underway to procure Doppler radar as well as seismic, agri-weather, automatic synoptic weather and river transport forecasting equipments to forecast weather and related matters more accurately and promptly.
Responding to a question from treasury bench member Md Tajul Islam, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this at the Jatiya Sangsad Wednesday, reports BSS.
The Prime Minister said the procurement process of these equipment under various ongoing projects would be completed by June next year.
Besides, the Prime Minister informed the house that the Meteorological department has already procured radar and other equipment under various projects to provide early message and weather forecasts about the tidal surge, earth quake and similar natural calamities.
The Meteorological department is also implementing different projects for the development of radar system in the country, she said adding that the present government has also taken steps to modernise 35 seismic observatory centres across the country subject to the availability of foreign fund.
She said with the implementation of these projects, the Met office would be a ble to provide Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) more accurately and promptly along with the existing conventional system.
