Egg, broiler chicken prices dwindle before Eid-ul-Azha

The price of farm egg and broiler chickens decreased ahead of Muslims' Eid-ul-Azha festival, traders said.
A 'hali' (four pieces) of egg was selling between Tk 30 and Tk 32 Thursday, which was Tk 32-Tk 34 last week, traders of city kitchen markets said.
The price of per kilogram of broiler is between Tk 125 to Tk 140, which was between Tk 135 to Tk 145 in the kitchen markets of the capital.
"The price of farm egg and broiler chicken gradually fell ahead of Eid-ul-Azha as the consumers are getting hilsha and other fishes at slightly low cost. They are preparing their refrigerators to store post-festival meat," Bangladesh Poultry Khamar Rokkha Jatiya Parishad general secretary Khandker Mohammad Mohsin told the FE.
He said the price of broiler chickens was between Tk 95 to Tk 100 at farm level while the price was between Tk 110 to Tk 115 last week.    
He said the price of both farm egg and broiler chicken might fall further before the Eid vacation.
Tejgaon Egg Traders Samity Ltd President Md Amanat Ullah said: "We have fixed the price of 100 piece egg Tk 500 Thursday midnight. Generally we buy eggs from farmers but recently we have to buy it from local syndicate with a cost of Tk 650. The price was Tk 750 last week."
"The price of farm egg is showing a downtrend and it might fall before Eid vacation," he said.
Most of the eggs come to our samity from Tangail, Kishoreganj, Mymensing and other district of the country.
The demand of broiler and layer meat is around 2.5 to 2.6 million kilogram per day. Sometimes the demand doubles, according to sector insiders.
The production capacity of broiler and layer meat is around 2.6 to 2.7 million per day.
The daily demand of farm egg is 27.0 million pieces across the country while its production is 27.3 million to 27.4 million pieces per day.
