Egg, sugar, local ginger become dearer as onion falls

Fine rice, egg, sugar and local ginger became a bit dearer while the price of onion fell last week, according to sources at different markets in the city.
The minicate rice was selling at Tk 40 per kg up from Tk 38 and Nazirshail at Tk 40 to Tk 48 up from Tk 37 to Tk 45 per kg.
Prices of coarse rice remained steady last week in the city's kitchen markets. BR-28 was selling at Tk 30-Tk 31, Pari at Tk 32, Sharna at Tk 28 and IRRI at Tk 26 per kg on an average.
Prices of local ginger further increased in the kitchen market last week. The local variety was selling at Tk 120 per kg up from Tk 100 per kg while the imported ginger was selling at Tk 95 per kg down from Tk 100 per kg.
Prices of both brand and non-brand sugar increased by Tk 1 and was selling at Tk 56 a kg at the retail level in the capital.
On the other hand, the price of garlic witnessed the same trend at the retail level. The local garlic was selling at Tk 140 per kg, and the imported variety was at Tk 120 per kg.
The Rupchanda brand edible oil in five-litre can was selling at Tk 455-Tk 460, Teer at Tk 448-Tk 450 and Dada at Tk 430 on an average last week.
Non-brand edible oil such as palm oil, super palm and soybean was selling at Tk 74-Tk 86 per litre.
The price of local lentil remained steady and was selling at Tk 128 per kg. The imported Indian, Nepalese and Turkish varieties were selling at Tk 100-Tk 120 per kg.
The price of both local and imported onion fell in the city. The local variety was selling at Tk 30 per kg against the earlier price of Tk 36 per kg and the imported Indian variety at Tk 28 which was Tk 33 per kg last week.
Fresh potato was selling at Tk 15- Tk 16 per kg on an average last week.
The price of every four red farm eggs was Tk 30 up from Tk 26 while the local eggs were stable at Tk 30.
Prices of fish witnessed an upward trend due to short supply, sources said.
A pair of medium-size Hilsha fishes were selling at Tk 800-Tk 900, up from Tk 700- Tk 800 of the previous week.
Shrimp was selling at Tk 400-Tk 450 per kg against Tk 350-Tk 400 per kg and Pangas at Tk 120 per kg up from Tk 100 per kg.
However, 'Katla' was steady at Tk 200, 'Poya' at Tk 180, 'Ruhi' at Tk 200 per kg, 'Kachki' and 'Telapia' at Tk 80-Tk 100 per kg.
'Puti' was selling at Tk 100 a kg, 'Tangra' at Tk 240 and 'Magur' at Tk 500-Tk 600 a kg on an average.
Prices of all vegetable items witnessed the same trend in the city's kitchen markets.
Carrot was selling at Tk 20 per kg, green chili at Tk 28-Tk 32 per kg, brinjal at Tk 20-Tk 22, 'Khirai', a variety of small cucumber, at Tk 20, papaya at Tk 12-Tk 16, bean at Tk 24-Tk 26, bitter gourd at Tk 30 per kg, a medium-size cauliflower at Tk 12-Tk 15, a medium-size cabbage at Tk 15 to Tk 16 and a medium-size gourd at Tk 30-Tk 45.
The prices of poultry birds were up to Tk 120-Tk 125 from Tk 115 per kg but those of beef and mutton were steady at Tk 230 and Tk 320 a kg in the city's retail outlets.
