Egyptian official: Gunmen kill policeman on patrol

Monday, 18 August 2014

Gunmen shot and killed an Egyptian policeman on patrol and wounded another north of Cairo on Monday, a security official said. The attack happened as the two policemen, who were on patrol, approached a suspicious-looking car parked by the side of the road in the Nile Delta province of Gharbiya, said the official. As they approached, the gunmen, who were inside the car, opened fire, killing one policeman and seriously wounding the other, said the official. The attackers then fled the scene, added the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media. The Interior Ministry said in a statement the patrol was part of a force searching for a number of suspects sentenced in absentia and other outlaws. It didn't elaborate, according to AP.
