CHITTAGONG, Oct 09: Eid shopping is getting momentum at the sidewalk markets as in different regular and posh markets and shopping malls of the port city.
The sidewalk markets mainly cater to the needs of the low and limited income groups of people. These footpath markets remain busy from morning till the dead hours of the night. Buyers are procuring items of their choice from these pootpath markets scattered all over the Port city.
Rush of buyers at the footpaths is increasing as the holy Eid-ul-Fitr is drawing nearer. Both the shoppers and the sellers at these makeshift markets are satisfied.
Almost all items, whether clothes or trinkets are available there although a section of law-enforcers are allegedly involved with toll-collection in the footpath markets.
The caretaker government on assuming power initiated steps to evict the hawkers from the footpaths and later, built holiday markets at some specified places.
On the occasion of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr Chittagong Metropolitan Police permitted the hawkers to sell their wares the footpaths by the last week of September last. The hawkers then started selling goods of different category since the beginning of the holy Ramadan.
In connection with Eid and Puja, security measures have been strengthened and the terrorists have fled. Traders can now sell their goods peacefully.
