Eid shopping spree gaining momentum in Bogra

BOGRA, Oct 8: Eid shopping spree has gained its full momentum at Bogra town markets. Buyers are crowding the markets to do their Eid shopping for near and dear ones.
One saree trader said it is hard to sell costly sarees, because lower middle-class buyers like to purchase sarees within Tk 2000. But he is hopeful of prospective buyers for the expensive sarees and other clothing.
As Eid is around the corner, people are rushing to the local markets to buy gifts for their near and dear ones. Shopping usually begins at 9:00 am and continues until mid-night.
Urban people are buying gifts according to their ability. But most of the villagers are unable to buy gifts up to their satisfaction due to financial constraints and the aftermath of recent floods.
This year, ready-made garment shop-owners are happy with their sale, but cloth-sellers are unable to draw buyers.
According to the ready-made garment traders, business is like before, but cloth sellers are claiming there sales are down by at least 30 per cent. Tailors are busy too, but they said, dress making is lower than the previous years.
Prices of footwears are steady this year. Jewellery business is also very dull. Sale of Indian goods has not gained like the previous years. A businessman told this correspondent that he had sold at least 50 per cent Indian goods last year, but it has declined this year.
Law-enforcing agencies including local administration and RAB are constantly patrolling the market areas in uniform or in plainclothes to avert any unwanted situation.
