Eight cases await appeal hearing

The Appellate Division (AD) of the Supreme Court (SC) is waiting to hear appeals against a total of eight cases of crimes against humanity, tried by two tribunals designated for holding the trials, reports BSS.
The cases that are waiting to be heard at the AD are of Matiur Rahman Nizami, Mir Quasem Ali, Mobarak Hossain, Syed Mohammad Qaiser, ATM Azharul Islam, Abdus Subhan, Engineer Abdul Jabbar and Chapainawab-ganj Razakar duo Mahidur Rahman and Afsar Hossain Chutu.
The AD so far disposed of four cases and has set July 29 for pronouncing judgment on appeal filed by BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
Earlier on June 16, the AD passed its judgment upholding the death sentence given by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 to Jamaat leader Ali Ahasan Mohammad Mujahid for committing crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation.
Meanwhile, only one case is waiting for its judgment at the ICT-1, which is against Bagerhat Razakar trio Sheikh Sirajul Haque alias Siraj Master, Khan Akram Hossain, and Abdul Latif Talukder.
