Eight die in S'ganj road accident

SIRAJGANJ, Mar 4 (UNB): Eight people were killed and three others injured critically when a salt-laden truck plunged into a roadside ditch on Dhaka-Bogra highway at Baghbari in Kamarkhand Upazila early Wednesday.

Seven of the deceased were identified as Akram (35), Ferdous (25), Altaf (40), Abu Sayed (28), Yusuf (30) and Sobhan (45) who hailed from Sherpur Upazila in Bogra district and Dudu Mia (45) at Sthalbari village in Kazipur Upazila of the district. The identity of another victim could not be known immediately.

Police said the accident occurred at around 5:30 am in the western side of the Jamuna Bridge when the Bogra bound truck coming from Chittagong plunged into the ditch as its driver lost control over the steering killing seven people on the spot. Another one later died at the Sadar hospital.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies and sent the injured to Sadar hospital in critical condition.

The driver and helper of the truck managed to flee the scene. A case was filed.
