Eight killed in road accidents

BRAHMANBARIA, Dec 28 (UNB): Four members of a family were killed and three others injured in a road accident at Bariura village on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Sarail upazila today (Wednesday). The deceased were identified as Abdul Latif, 55, Rozina Akter, 25, Kanta Begum, 16, and Araffat, 10, of Shahbajpur village of the upazila. Police said a microbus carrying the victims collided head-on with a truck leaving four people killed on the spot and three others injured at about 7:30am. The microbus passengers were going to Dhaka Shahjalal International Airport from Shahbajpur village to receive their expatriate relative on his return from abroad. The injured were admitted to Brahmanbaria General Hospital in critical condition. BSS reports: Two men riding a motorcycle lost their lives when they rammed into a tree at Lasna village under Srimongal Upazila of the district, Tuesday afternoon. Police quoting eyewitness said, their motorcycle spun out of control and collided with a roadside tree. Police recovered the bodies and motorcycle. However, the victims' identities could not be ascertained. UNB reports from Naogaon: Two people were killed in a road accident at Nischintapur bazaar in Sapahar upazila on Tuesday. The deceased were identified as van driver Asif Hossain, 14, son of Enamul Haque and passenger Shafi Uddin, 70, son of late Dudha Mandal of the village. Locals said the accident occurred at about 12 noon when a speedy truck rammed into a van, leaving the van driver Asif and passenger Shafi dead on the spot. Local people caught the truck driver when he tried to flee the scene. On information, police seized the truck and arrested the driver. Later, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed. Another report from Jamalpur adds: A CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver was killed and four others were injured in a head-on-collusion between a truck and the auto-rickshaw at Pashchimpar Dighuli village on Jamalpur-Tangail highway in Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning. The deceased was identified as Genda, 32, son of Jafar Ali, of Kumar Para village in the upazila.
