Eight killed in road mishaps

CHITTAGONG, Dec 18 (BSS): A businessman and his elderly mother were killed and his two children injured when a speedy private car knocked a CNG-run three-wheeler at Biyezid Bostami area of Chittagong-Rangamati road in the city this morning.
The victims were identified as Nurjahan Begum (62), wife of late Abul Kashem who hailed from Paindong area under Fatikchhari Upazila in the district and her son construction businessman Belal Hossain (41).
Officer-in-Charge of Biyazid Bostami Thana Mohiuddin Selim, told the news agency that a Hathazari-bound speedy private car knocked from behind the three-wheeler in front of Bayezid Bostami Fire Station at 7 am this morning, leaving four CNG passengers injured critically.
Munshiganj
Two people were killed and three others injured in a road accident at Bhowar Bhiti in Sirajdikhan Upazila in the district Saturday.
The accident took place when a passenger bus and a CNG-run auto rickshaw collided head-on in the area.
Auto rickshaw passengers Akbar (30) of Chorrergaon village and Mohan (25) of Polashpur village of Sirajdikhan Upazila died instantly.
The injured were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Savar
At least four people were killed and 30 others injured as a bus hit a roadside tree on Dhaka-Aricha highway near Joypura bus stand in Dhamrai Upazila early Saturday.
Of the deceased, two were identified as Jalal, (18), of Bagerhat district and Milon, (19), of Gopalganj district while the identity of the two other deceased could not be known immediately.
Police said, the accident occurred at about 4:30 am when the Dhaka-bound Diganta Paribahan bus from Bagerhat hit the roadside tree as its driver in sleeping mood lost control over the steering, leaving four people killed on the spot and 30 injured.
The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and other local hospitals.Police seized the bus but its driver and helpers managed to flee the scene.
