Eight killed, over 70 injured in road mishaps

Eight people were killed and over 70 others injured in separate road accidents in Rajbari and Bagerhat districts Tuesday, reports UNB.
In Rajbari, five people, including a mother and her son, were killed and 25 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses at Nimtala in Sadar Upazila on Daulatdia-Khulna road early Tuesday.
Three of the deceased were identified as bus driver Abdur Rashid (45), Runu Akther (35) and her two and half years old son Hasib.
Witnesses said a Dhaka bound bus from Jessore collided with a Patuakhali bound bus at about 2:00 am, leaving the five people dead on the spot.
The injured were rushed to Rajbari sadar and Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
The bodies were sent to hospital morgue.
In Bagerhat, three people were killed and another 50 injured as an overloaded bus crashed into a tree at Fatehpur village in Sadar Upazila on Bagerhat- Pirojpur road.
The deceased were identified as Abdus Salam (45) of Bajikarkhanda village of Mongla Upazila, Kulsum Begum, 28 and her daughter Sonia (2), of Baroikhali village of Morelganj Upazila.
Witnesses said a Bagerhat bound bus from Pirojpur hit a tree when its driver lost control over the vehicle at about 10:00 am, leaving the trio dead on the spot.
The injured were rushed to Sadar Hospital, Khulna Medical College Hospital and various local clinics..
Among the injured, condition of 10 people was stated to be critical.
