Ekram killing: Minar, 55 others charged

Local BNP leader Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury Minar and 55 others have been charged in court with the killing of Feni’s Phulgazi Upazila Chairman Ekramul Haque. Police submitted charge-sheet to the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate of Feni Md Khairul Amin on Thursday evening. The charge-sheet also names district Awami League Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Adel, Juba League leader Ziaul Alam Mister and Ruti Sohel as main conspirators of the murder, although they have not been arrested. Besides Minar, who is the prime suspect, Phulgazi Upazila Awami League Joint Secretary Jahid Chowdhury Jihad, Feni MP Nizam Hajari’s cousin Abidul Islam Abid are also accused in the murder. Ekramul Haque, president of AL Phulgazi unit, was killed in a daylight attack at Feni Sadar on May 20. Assailants blocked his car, opened fire on the vehicle and set it ablaze with Ekram trapped inside. His brother filed a case naming Minar after the murder, according to a news agency.
