Ekram murder: BCL activist Masud held

Police on Monday night arrested a local activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Feni town for his alleged involvement in the killing of Fulgazi Upazila Chairman Ekramul Haque Ekram. The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Masud, son of Abu Ahmed alias Abul Khayer of Char Kakra village of Companyganj Upazila of Noakhali district. Police said acting on a tip-off, a team raided Feni’s College Road area around 8:30pm and nabbed Masud from near Shahid Hossain Uddin Market. With Masud’s arrest, the number of arrestees in the Ekramul murder case now stands at 29. Investigation officer (IO) of the case and inspector (investigation) of Feni Model Police Station Abul Kalam Azad said Abidul Islam Abid, one of those on the killing mission, in the confessional statement under Section 164 admitted that Masud also had involvement in the murder. On May 20, Ekram, also president of Fulgazi upazila unit of Awami League, was killed by miscreants in front of Bilasi Cinema Hall in the morning on his way to Fulgazi municipality office from his Masterpara residence in Feni town, according to as news agency.
