Elahi Newaz DUJ president, Khairul Alam general secy

Elahi Newaz Khan Saju and Khairul Alam Bakul have been elected president and general secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) respectively for 2015-16 period.
They were elected by voice vote at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the DUJ held at the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Friday morning, a news agency report said.
At the AGM, a three-member election committee was first constituted to elect the office bearers and members of the DUJ executive committee.
As per the suggestions of the committee, a senior journalist proposed the names of the committee members and the DUJ members present at the meeting unanimously supported the new committee.
The other office bearers of the DUJ are: Senior vice-president: Mahfuzur Rahman (UNB); vice-presidents: Alimuzzaman Harun and M Bodiuzzaman (Prothom Alo); joint secretary: Abdullah Ferdous (Dhaka Protidin); finance secretary: Galib Hasan; organising secretary: Shawkat Reza (Alokito Bangladesh); publicity secretary: Salah Uddin Mohammed Babar; sports and cultural secretary: Abdul Baset Miah; public welfare secretary: Khandaker Alamgir Hossain (Banik Barta); and office secretary: M Shajahan Saju (Khabarpatra).
Members of the executive committee are Kaiyum Khan Milon (New Nation), Abdur Rahim (Inqilab), Ajmal Lutfa Khanom (Shadhinmot), Atikur Rahman (Inqilab), Shikdar Alamgir (Mukta Khabar), Golam Kibria (NTV), Salauddin Razzak (Bangladesh Protidin) and Sagar Anwar (The Report).
The DUJ meeting also vowed to merge the two factions of Dhaka Union of Journalists divided in 1993.
