Elderly woman run over by bus in city

An elderly woman was killed and her daughter was severely injured when a bus hit them at Matsya Bhaban intersection in the city on Tuesday evening.
The accident took place when the victims -- Rezia Khatun, 60, and Rina Akter, 30, -- were crossing the intersection at around 5:00pm, sources said.
They were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the attending doctor declared Ms Rezia dead, said DMCH police outpost in-charge Inspector Bachchu Mia.
Critically injured Rina Akter was admitted to the DMCH emergency unit, he added.
Meanwhile, the police recovered the body of an unidentified man from the city's Hatir Jheel area.
The body was found at around 7:00am at a place near the Mohanagar project check-post, Hatir Jheel police station duty officer Saiful Islam said.
The body was wrapped in bed sheet and mosquito net and strapped with a nylon rope, he said, adding that the victim was aged around 35 years.
Later, the police sent the body to the DMCH for autopsy.
However, no case was lodged with the police station in this regard till filing of this report at 7:30pm.
