Election Commission of India and our election

Saturday, 5 April 2014

With the recent upazila election, the ruling party has totally destroyed the faith of people in the election system of our country. The ruling party leaders and activists went berserk to ensure their victory and they have done everything to make it happen. But in reality, they have smashed their credibility in this process. Common people were shell-shocked at such brazen vote rigging.
During the time of autocratic ruler HM Ershad, we used to see such happenings and I had thought that we left those horrible days of vote rigging behind. But, unfortunately, vote rigging is haunting us till now. What we witness now in our country in the name of democracy is nothing but the pure autocratic rule. As a result, the people of our country were unable to exercise their voting rights in the last general election. We see a bad tendency to cling to power whoever gets the mandate of the common people once. Even in our neighbouring country India, we see free, fair and all-participatory election is a regular affairs and the Indian Election Commission has been doing its work sincerely and honestly. We hope we will learn from our big neighbour India and establish an election commission like it.
