Elections to BFF, DSAs, DFAs deferred again

Friday, 23 November 2007

Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) deferred its election by several days due to the situation prevailing after the devastating cyclone `Sidr' that ripped through the south and southwestern region recently, reports UNB.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the BFF Thursday with its president SA Sultan in the chair.
Talking to the reporters after the meeting, Sultan said the BFF election is now likely in the first week of next February.
Earlier, the BFF election was scheduled for January 19, 2008.
The BFF president said they also deferred by 10 days the dates of elections to the District Sports Associations (DSAs) and Divisional Football Association (DFAs) upon requests by the organisers of 16 districts severely affected by the cyclone.
As per fresh schedule, the elections to DSAs will now be held on December 15 and to DFAs on December 24 instead of Dec 5 and 14 respectively, he added.
Meanwhile, to raise funds for the cyclone-affected people, BFF will organise three exhibition matches with the participation of two popular clubs -- Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club. Matches will be held on December 3, 5 and 7 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS).
Sultan said: "We also have a plan to hold a charity concert on Dec. 8 at the BNS with the participation of top singers of the country."
