Electrification boosts rural economy in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Oct 10 (BSS): Despite the global crises caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine War, cent per cent electrification boosts rural economy improving livelihoods and living standard of people in Rangpur division.
Taking the advantage of rural electrification, local entrepreneurs are establishing and running cottage, small and medium scale enterprises and industries creating huge jobs for unemployed youths helping them to lead normal life.
Superintendent Engineer of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) at its Rangpur zonal office Syed Niaz Mohammad said that electrification has become a blessing for rural people in all eight districts of Rangpur division.
"We have brought 100-per cent villages under power supply coverage in the On-grid area by July, 2020 and brought all 9,454 villages under power networks creating an opportunity for industrialization to boost rural economy," he said. Local entrepreneurs are running 23,886 small and medium scale and cottage and heavy industries boosting the rural economy even amid the global crises assisting rural people in leading a normal life.
"We have provided 36,36,097 different types of power connections covering 34,20,773 beneficiary families in the division until March this year through eight Palli Bidyut Samities in the division," he said, adding, the provided connections include 32,64,017 lakh residential, 2,06,081 commercial, 46,321 institutions, 23,886 small and medium scale, cottage and large industries, 93,741 irrigation pumps, 593 street lights and 1,458 other users.
