Elephant kills 2 in Netrakona

Two people were killed in an attack by a wild elephant in Durgapur border area of Netrakona district on Thursday. The dead is Taher Uddin, 65, a resident of Chaklengura village under Durgapur upazila, and Shiplu, 31, a resident of Santosh Park area of the upazila headquarters. Locals said a marauding wild elephant coming from Nalua Para of the border area invaded the village in the morning. It attacked Taher around 6:00am while he was returning home from mosque after saying Fazr prayers killing him on the spot. At the same time, the elephant destroyed five houses at the village. Shiplu was trampled to death by the elephant as he was walking inside his house adjacent to Santosh Park. On information, a team of police led by Saidur Rahman, sub-inspector of Durgapur Police Station, rushed to the spot and shot 16 rounds of bullet to the elephant. Later, the elephant died on the spot, according to UNB.
