Elevator collapse

Wednesday, 13 March 2019

An elevator collapsed on Thursday last week in Dhaka City District and Sessions Judge Court. At least 14 people were injured. In 2016, collapse of an elevator in Alauddin Market of Uttara's Azampur area caused fire to break out. Six people were killed, and at least 50 people injured.
Such incidents are common in our country. Maintenance of elevators is crucially important for the safety of their users.
In Bangladesh, many buildings are still using old elevators. These need to be replaced immediately.
Life is precious. To ensure the security of users, all the elevators of the country need to be checked by relevant agencies on a regular basis. Instead of running old elevators by servicing them every now and then, new elevators should be installed. Greater awareness needs to be generated among the people about this issue.
