Embarrassed AL seeks crackdown on miscreants to stop abductions

Embarrassed by the recent spate of abductions and killings, the ruling Awami League (AL) wants the government to crack down on the miscreants and ensure exemplary punishment to them, reports UNB.
"From the party we hope that the government will arrest the culprits and ensure exemplary punishment to them," AL presidium member Nuh Ul Alam Lenin told the news agency in a telephone interview Tuesday.
He said, AL and its chief Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina have taken the matter strongly.
"The trust of the people put on us will obviously come under question if the government fails to take effective action," he said. "That's why the prime minister has issued orders to take immediate effective actions to find out the culprits."
At the regular cabinet meeting Monday the PM warned that the government would not spare anyone involved in the recent abductions and killings of seven people in Narayanganj.
"We won't spare anyone involved in the abduction and killing of seven people in Narayanganj, no matter how powerful the person is," she said.
The premier told the meeting: "We're firm to find out the culprits …we won't leave any stone unturned."
Lenin said: "We can't bring the dead back alive, but we must ensure that such incidents don't happen again."
