Emirates adjudged 'airline of the year'

Emirates, one of the leading international airlines operating in Bangladesh, has been adjudged the 'Monitor-AKTEL Airline of the year 2007.'
The announcement in this connection was made at the first Airline of the Year Awards presentation ceremony at a city hotel Saturday.
The Middle Eastern carrier also emerged winner in the Best Business Class, Best Long Haul Airline and Best In-flight Entertainment categories.
Thai Airways bagged the awards in the Best Short-Haul Airline, Best In-flight Meal in Business Class and Most Favourite Loyalty Programme categories while Singapore Airlines received the awards in the Most Passenger Friendly Airline and Best Economy Class categories.
Malaysia Airlines clinched the award in the Best In-flight Meal in Economy Class category while Cathay Pacific Airways was voted the Best Off-line Passenger Carrier.
Saudi Arabian Airlines won the Cargo Airline of the Year Award.
Chief Adviser's Special Assistant for the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Jamil attended the ceremony as the chief guest and gave away the awards to the victors.
Editor of Bangladesh Monitor Kazi Wahidul Alam, Market Development Director of Asia Pacific Galileo Marco Gorin and Director of Sales and Marketing of the Westin Dhaka ATM Hafizullah, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahbub Jamil said, "An upsurge in the aviation sector is a key as it can create multiple opportunities for our economy; because, aviation is interrelated with development of the tourism and hospitality industry as well."
"Within three months of time, that massive upsurge in the overall standard of service in the aviation sector can be brought in", he affirmed.
