Emphasis on creating mass awareness, using latest technology to prevent fire loss

Global Insurance Limited (GIL) organised a seminar on "the role of insurance, fire service and public awareness for preventing fire loss" in a city hotel recently.
The seminar was presided over by GIL Chairman Mahabub Morshed Talukder. Ministry of Commerce Secretary Feroz Ahmed was the chief guest of the programme, and Chief Controller of Insurance Mahfujul Haque was the special guest.
They called upon the general insurance companies to come forward to create awareness among the mass people, specially among the clients. They also stressed the need for performing fire drills regularly to minimise fire hazards.
GIL Managing Director ABM Nurul Haq and Civil Defence Training College Principal M Abdus Salam presented keynote papers, mentioning the role of the insurance companies and the importance of preventive measures.
In the papers they pointed out lack of awareness as the main reason of fire hazards. They said, 80 per cent of the fire incidents take place because of electrical short circuit. They emphasised the need for creating public awareness for preventing fire exposure.
Nitol Group Chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmed, Institute of Architects Bangladesh President Mubasshar Hossain, Mercantile Bank Director and Audit Committee Chairman AKM Shaheed Reza, and Luman Group Chairman Lutfor Rahman Matin also took part in the discussion.
They stressed the need for using latest technology including good quality circuit breakers, cables and fire detecting machines, installation of sprinklers and fire extinguishers as part of fire prevention measures.
