Emphasizing on the need to learn English better

 
English is an important means of communication around the world. Academically as well as in business, English plays a crucial role. In our country, students of urban areas are better off in English compared to those living in the countryside. This was confirmed by this year's debacle in HSC results. Most of the students who failed, were found doing bad in English and in fact, bad result in English was the main reason behind overall bad results in HSC. We must not forget that English has become a carrier of communication in business, education, politics and sports. It helps us compete in global businesses and open doors of new opportunities for us. Many parents, who realise the importance of English, prefer to send their children to English-medium schools. The number of such students is rapidly increasing. But studying in English school is an expensive affair and few parents can afford it. A person who can speak and write English well has a clear edge over others. We need to understand that putting emphasis on English does not mean that the importance of our own language is undermined.
