Empowering youth entrepreneurs

Wednesday, 12 February 2025

The country is now facing a defining moment that requires the empowerment of young entrepreneurial ventures to achieve stable economic progress. A substantial pool of creative talent and leadership ability exists among students from school to early university stages. Young people who engage in entrepreneurial ventures develop problem-solving expertise, making them strong candidates for leading industries in the future.
Technology-oriented businesses, along with artificial intelligence ventures, agricultural developments, and environmental innovation opportunities, enable youth startups to thrive. Young entrepreneurs can address national challenges through modern farming techniques, AI development, and green technology advancements, contributing to economic expansion.
Examples worldwide demonstrate how youth entrepreneurship can have transformative effects on communities. The startup ecosystems of Bangalore and Hyderabad maintain their dynamic presence, with young innovators driving advancements in fintech and agritech. Estonia's digital nation model has enabled young people to develop revolutionary technology initiatives, positioning the country as an international leader in digital business innovation.
Successful development of this potential requires collaboration between governmental and educational institutions. The integration of entrepreneurial education into academic curricula will enhance students' financial literacy and business competencies. A supportive environment, including mentorship programmes, funding initiatives and access to technological research facilities fosters practical learning experiences. Simplifying the registration process for youth enterprises and providing tax incentives will further encourage youth entrepreneurship.
Society must shift its perspective on entrepreneurship, recognising it as a cornerstone of progress. Rather than viewing entrepreneurship as risky, it should be promoted as a viable and respectable career path, attracting more young people. Parents and educators should actively support youth participation in competitions, workshops, and innovation challenges to nurture creativity and resilience.
