Enactment of law can't stop hartal: Delwar
Tuesday, 6 July 2010
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain Monday said enacting law would not be helpful to stop hartal.
Delwar made the remark at the mazar premises of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman when asked about the government's move to make a law with provision of filing cases against hartal enforcers to realise compensation for hartal victims, reports UNB.
While in power, many things could be said about stopping hartal, he added, and reminded that Awami League (AL) had pledged not to enforce hartal but did not keep the commitment.
The BNP leader said his party favoured trial of genuine war criminals.
"But the government is trying to secure political advantage in the name of trial of war crimes", he added.
Delwar along with leaders and workers of Jatiyatabadi Motshojibi Dal placed wreaths and offered fateha at Zia's mazar in the afternoon on the occasion of release of Motshojibi Dal President Rafiqul Islam Mahtab who was arrested during June 27 hartal.
