A double strike by striker Enamul Haque guided Abahani Limited to a 2-0 win over New Road of Nepal in the AFC President’s Cup football that began Wednesday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS), reports UNB.
Promising striker Enamul, the highest scorer of the Bangladesh League so far, again showed his mettle scoring in both half and the hosts finally left the field with triumph dominating over the visitors in the entire match.
Enamul put Abahani Limited ahead in the 28th minute with a placing shot from the D-box off a close minus from Ghanaian recruit Awudu Ibrahim (1-0).
After the lemon break, Enamul scored again for the Bangladesh League champions Abahani Limited from a penalty in the 67th minute (2-0).
Korean referee awarded the spot kick in favour of Abahani as Zahid Pervez's left wing cross touched the hand of Nepalese defender Sagar Thapa who tried to clear the ball in the danger zone.
The visitors got a real scoring chance in the 72nd minute. Forward Ghavghani Mosavi Shayan took a powerful right-footer from the top of the D-box, but the ball returned to play after hitting the cross bar.
