Encourage science and technology education

There is now more demand for business education in Bangladesh. The main reason for it is a perception that business graduates, compared to the those of other disciplines, manage to get jobs -- and at higher salary. This is specially true for those who graduate from reputed business schools. The expectation of earning handsome amount of income influences many students and their guardians whether to study business or other subjects such as those from arts, science etc.
In Bangladesh some 30 years ago, there was not that much dominance of the business subjects. Science or arts subjects had high demand then. Those who studied them were well placed in various organizations. But with the wave of globalization and expansion of service-related offices like telecom, banks, insurance, real estate etc., there have been increasing employment opportunities for business graduates.
However, if the country is to really progress, it must develop people with technical know-how. We can ensure the development of the country by using information communication technology (ICT) and developing science and technology education. We can expect these graduates to contribute to the development of the country.
Guardians, teachers and students must come forward in this regard. They should see long-term career prospects of the students. Science fair should be arranged more effectively so that young students feel more attracted towards science. The life of scientists and their contribution to society should be discussed in social gatherings and the media.
Furthermore, guardians need to increase their level of awareness about the benefits of science and technology-based education. More interest and actions about such education in the country will help build a generation who can contribute pro-actively to the nation-building process.
