End curse of load-shedding
Thursday, 27 April 2023
Load-shedding in most parts of Bangladesh is now a common phenomenon. We are now facing power outage every day in sweltering heat. Load-shedding has returned to Dhaka city with rural areas experiencing hours-long unannounced power cuts. In villages, it is more frequent in the daytime. People in many areas held protest demonstrations and resorted to vandalism demanding an end to load-shedding. Some days ago, a group of agitated people reportedly took out a procession and attacked Chhagalnaiya Palli Bidyut office in Feni. Media reports say that they broke into the office and ransacked the furniture in different rooms. Dhaka-Sylhet highway was also blocked at that time.
No matter how painful load-shedding is, this regular occurrence has become an inseparable part of our lives at present. It creates many problems and hinders the socio-economic development of the country. Domestic life becomes a painful ordeal for this. Sometimes medical tests cannot be done without electricity. Such tests are very important to find out the real condition of a patient. In fact, the importance of regular supply of power at every turn of our modern-day living cannot be overemphasized. So, the government should do something to put an end to the suffering caused by regular power cuts.
