End to pollution, occupation urged

'Save the Environment Movement' Friday organized a boat rally in the Buriganga river to press home its demand for freeing the river from encroachment and punishing the illegal occupants, reports BSS. The rally of some 50 boats started from Waizghat and ended at Kamrangirchar, said a press release. The rally demanded implementation of an eight-point charter of demands, including proper demarcation of the Buriganga, formation of a strong river commission, identification and punishment of river polluters and encroachers, eviction of identified illegal structures and stopping release of wastes in the river. Save the Environment Movement Chairman Abu Naser Khan, columnist Syed Abul Maksud, leaders of different social organisations like M Reaz Uddin, Abul Hasnat, Amir Hassan, Faruq Hossain, Hazi Ansar Ali, Hazi M Manir and Akbar Ali took part in the rally, among others.
