Energy-efficient brick kiln projects honoured

The country’s first ever energy-efficient brick kiln project to earn carbon credits, Improving Kiln Efficiency in the Brick Making Industry in Bangladesh, Thursday celebrated the distribution of the revenue generated by its first sale of emission reductions to the World Bank’s Community Development Carbon Fund. IIDFC, a leading financial institution in the country, honoured six brick manufacturing units with certificates of recognition for their contribution to emission reduction through introduction of HHK technology in their respective units and distributed carbon revenue worth US$91,594 among six participating brick kilns which together have reduced 15,857 tons of carbon dioxide by using the energy-efficient Hybrid Hoffman Kiln (HHK) technology. These brick kilns are part of the country’s first Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project in the brick sector, implemented by the project developer IIDFC.Chairman of IIDFC Mr. M. Matiul Islam distributed cheques and certificates of emission reduction to the chief executives of the companies. Chairman of Kapita Auto Bricks Mr. C. M. Alam, managing director of MTB Anis A Khan, MD of BRAC Bank Mahbubur Rahman,  MD of National Bank Mr. A K M Shafiqur Rahman, Vice Chairman of One Bank Mr. Asoke Das Gupta, MD of IIDFC Mr. Md. Asaduzzaman Khan, CDM project Manager of IIDFC Mr. Shafiqul Alam, CDM officer of IIDFC Mr. Shanin Muntaha were present on the occasion, according to a statement.
