Energy-efficient tube lights

In an advertisement an importer of a foreign brand of tube lights claimed that their brand of imported lights consume far less power and give much better illumination. However the price of those imported tubes is four times more than the price of the other local brands available in the market. The importer stated that it was ideal for use in factories (like garment factories) and other industries where illumination at workplace is important. It was further claimed that any factory, hospital and large restaurant, banquet hall or auditorium can save around Tk 1.2 millions annually if they use around one thousand such tube lights in their installations. It was further claimed in the advertisement that illumination capacity of these tubes is three times more than that of local brands.
In the writer's view, they should ask BUET to carry out required tests to authenticate their claim and if their claims are found valid after the tests, they can request the government to reduce the import duty on their tube lights so that we can get them cheaper and still save a lot of scarce electricity of the country.
