Energy Security Day observed in Chittagong

CHITTAGONG, Aug 10: Energy Security Day was observed in the city amid daylong programme Saturday. Colourful festoons, banners and placards were on display on the road islands and a rally was organised in front of Chittagong Press Club by Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC). A procession was also brought out that paraded city streets.
Officials, employees and workers of all six companies under the BPC - Padma Oil Co Ltd, Meghna Petroleum Ltd, Jamuna Oil Co Ltd, Eastern Refinery Ltd, LP Gas Ltd and Standard Asiatic Oil Co Ltd and Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Co Ltd - were present in the rally.
The main objective of the Energy Security Day was to make economic use of the energy and create awareness to check smuggling of energy resources in the country. BPC director (operation) Mosleh Uddin addressed the rally.
A statement issued by the BPC said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman procured all gas fields from the foreigners for nation building and ensured the security of energy by nationalising the oil marketing companies.
