Engineers urged to contribute to welfare of common people

President M Zillur Rahman Thursday urged the engineers to make contribution to the welfare of common people being imbued with patriotism, reports UNB.
"Through concerted efforts I express the hope you will make more contributions to the welfare of the country in the future," he said at the convocation of Rajshahi Engineering Old Students’ Association (REOSA)-2010 held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city.
The President also urged the engineers to take initiatives to develop renewable energy especially biogas to locally mitigate the huge demand of electricity.
Terming Bangladesh as one of the most potential countries in South Asia, Zillur Rahman said communal harmony and mutual feelings of affection exists among the people.
Saying that all should have to make progress with a mission to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021, the President said responsibility of the government will be to gradually implement various development programmes for the people's comfort.
Describing engineers as the makers of development and carriers of progress, the President said country's all big infrastructures were built by them and civilisations are moving forward based on their creativity, talent and wisdom.
Hasanul Huq Inu MP, Vice-President of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology Dr Sirajul Karim Chowdhury, REOSA President Engineer Shah Khaled Reza and General Secretary Engineer M Toufiqul Islam also spoke on the occasion.
