English medium schools under regulations!

Wednesday, 13 August 2014

It is good to know that finally the government is contemplating steps to control the unruly English medium schools wich have been charging their students in a free-style manner.  The English medium schools are used to obtain exorbitant fees on various pleas like readmission fee, development charge and security money etc. Why a student has to be readmitted every year and pay big amount for that? Due to the absence of any government regulation the schools fleeced the helpless guardians. The government should have acted long before. However, it is better late than never.
English medium schools these days have become a very popular mode of education; and more and more parents, even those belonging to the lower middle class are opting for such school. We cannot deny the importance of English language. Like many other countries, in Bangladesh too we see who are well conversed in English enjoy edge over the people who are not. I hope once the guideline for English medium school comes into effect, we will see the much-needed discipline in this sector, particularly in the financial sector, and it will be good for everyone - be it guardians and school authority.  We must not forget that we cannot encourage a cut-throat profit-mongering attitude in the name of education and make the basic right like education unnecessarily expensive.
