Enhance train service on Dhaka-Narail route

Thursday, 26 March 2026

The launch of the Padma Bridge rail link has fulfilled a long-cherished dream for the people of Narail. Previously, travelling to Dhaka by bus took five to six hours, but now the journey by train can be completed in just two to two and a half hours. Trains are also a safer and more comfortable means of transportation. However, this relief is still limited for many people, as only two trains operate on this route each day, leaving passengers to face difficulties.
Thousands of people from Narail, Lohagara, Kalia, and the surrounding areas travel to Dhaka regularly for various purposes. Due to severe ticket shortages, excessive crowding, and limited services, many passengers are deprived of the benefits they had hoped for. Patients travelling to Dhaka for medical treatment, students going to sit for admission tests, and ordinary people rushing for their livelihoods often face uncertainty in their journeys.
As a result, the immense potential of the Padma Bridge rail connection has, for many, turned into disappointment. In this context, increasing the number of trains on the Narail-Dhaka route has become an urgent necessity. Doing so would reduce public suffering, expand employment opportunities, open doors to greater access, and make connectivity between the southwestern region and the capital truly effective and humane.
